CLITHEROE Tennis Club A whitewashed Whalley B to strengthen their chances of promotion.
Steve Pym and Daniel Bush took the first match 6-3, 6-1, before Derek Parrott and Phil Mileham won 6-2, 6-3, but the return games were close affairs.

Pym and Bush lost the first set 2-6, but took the second set by the same score, before taking the final three games of the decider to seal victory.

And in the final match, Parrott and Mileham were in control throughout, winning the first set 6-4 before winning a second set tie-break 7-1.

The previous weekend, the side recorded their seventh-straight league win against the town's own B team.

Roger Ravenscroft and Mileham thrashed Robert Brass and Bill Smith 6-1, 6-1, before Parrott and Bush overcame Barry Taylor and Andy Todd 6-1, 6-0.

And in the return rubbers, Ravenscroft and Mileham repeated their score against Taylor and Todd, before Parrott and Bush won 6-4, 6-3 against Brass and Smith.

On Sunday, the Mixed A team moved into the semi-final of the district cup competition with a 6-2 victory at Burnley.

Jennifer Holgate and Daniel Bush beat a strong pair in the first round of matches, while Julie Pym and Phil Mileham easily overcame the second pair.

In the return matches, Holgate and Bush completely dominated their match, and despite a 5-7, 3-6 defeat for Pym and Mileham, Clitheroe progressed.
