CLITHEROE Tennis Club A took a giant step towards the Second Division title, and promotion to the top flight, with an emphatic 5-0 demolition of rivals Burnley B.
The marathon match was a little closer than the score suggests, but after five consecutive years as runners-up, the team were determined to put clear daylight between themselves and the chasing pack.

Top pair Derek Parrott and Daniel Bush took on a young hard hitting pair who started brightly.

However, once they had mastered the windy conditions the result was never in doubt, and the 6-1 final set confirmed their dominance.

On the other court, Steve Pym and Tony Bush took the scenic route in their match, opting for quantity rather than quality in a marathon encounter.

But they did show immense character in grinding out the match, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.

Derek and Daniel then rubbed salt into the wounds of their opponents in the return match, winning 6-2, 6-3, while Steve and Tony won 6-4, 6-1.

And the result means Clitheroe need only four points from their final two matches to guarantee the title.
