IT finished honours even for Clitheroe on the final day of the season as visitors Bamber Bridge secured the last play-off place at Shawbridge on Saturday.
The visitors needed a point to guarantee themselves a place in the reckoning for promotion but they had a very jittery start

An own goal gave the Blues the lead on five minutes when Brig centre back Adam Tong poked home an off-target Anthony Johnson strike past his own keeper.

Firmly in control, Clitheroe were unlucky not to go further ahead when Carl Lomax struck a sweet 20-yard free kick against the Brig upright as the Blues ran in a goal ahead at half-time.

However, Bamber Bridge were much more composed after the break when they resumed their third game in five days.

Alex Porter levelled the scores on 59 minutes with a well taken free kick that had a full stretch James Mann beaten.

But, from a Dave Hankin free kick, a goal keeping error led to a goal mouth scramble and Jonathan Smith poked the final ball over the line to regain the lead.

Further chances were seen at either end as Danny Toronczak and player-manager Pete Smith joined the game, but a poor Ian Flannery clearance led to an extremely disappointing second equaliser.

Brig midfielder Danny Mahoney received the ball and put through a pass, that should have been cut out by at least one Clitheroe player, for Martin Crowder to have free run through on goal and slot past an unlucky Mann.

In the end the result didn't matter as Ossett Albion lost the game they had to win to knock Bamber Bridge out of the final play-off place, and Brig finished in the final spot by four points.

Clitheroe: Mann, Kozlowski, Clarke, Flannery, J. Smith, P. Osborne, Hankin (Toronczak), Stopforth (Pilkington), Lomax, Johnson (P. Smith), Redhead.
