Challenging rugby season in prospect!
CLITHEROE RUFC is eagerly looking forward to the new season with the appointment of a new coach, Iain Harris and the onset of pre-season training.
Harris has a wealth of rugby experience having had a successful playing career in Scotland where he played representative rugby before going on to coach Tynedale, a large club in the North East.
He has lived in the Ribble Valley for the last eight years and is looking forward to the challenge of improving the senior teams.
The first team face some stiff competition with new teams coming into the league from Windermere, Barrow-in-Furness and Hutton as Blackpool drop back down.
The seconds hope to build on their position in the Miller Homes League where they face teams from Preston Grasshoppers, among others.
To ensure all players are fit and ready for the season, which begins with friendly games organised for mid-August, pre-season training for the senior players is to start on Tuesday and will follow every Tuesday and Thursday at Littlemoor at 7-30 p.m.
All players are asked to get involved from the outset and to contact captain Ben Graves if they are unable to attend.
Training for the Under 14s-16s is also going to be starting early with the first session planned for Sunday, July 20th at 10-30 a.m.
Another major piece of news in relation to Mini and Youth rugby is that the Lancashire RFU has appointed a new Community Rugby Coach for the Clitheroe area in Martin Powell.
He will be working with all the schools in the area to promote the game of rugby while also linking into Clitheroe RUFC.
Anyone are interested in coming to play or would just like to find out more information, you can find what you're looking for on the club's website, including forthcoming fixtures and events, at www.clitheroerugby.com.
