HAIL king Neil Reynolds of Clitheroe, and all his merry men! All is well at Shawbridge at the moment, after four straight wins.

Fourth in the UniBond First Division North, just a point off the top, and progress in the FA Cup is a far cry from their opening day performance against Mossley

But while harmony currently resides in the camp, Reynolds is adamant his players can't afford to take their foot off the gas.

The Blues welcome Wakefield to Shawbridge on Saturday (kick-off 3 p.m.), before a trip to Radcliffe Borough on Tuesday (kick-off 7-45 p.m.).

And he said: "Four wins on the spin is pleasing for any manager.
"However, as far as I'm concerned, the hard work starts here.

"We've given ourselves a start, that's all we've done, and now we have to build on that.

"The players can't think they can just go out and win games, they have to earn the right to do that.

"Through one thing or another, we didn't really play the way we know we can at Penrith, and so it's important we don't rest on our laurels.

"We have to turn Shawbridge into a fortress, and the lads have to go out and play every game like it's a cup final."

If Clitheroe are to turn their home into a fortress, they will need the continued backing of their vociferous supporters: "The fans have been brilliant towards us so far, we couldn't really have asked for a lot more.

"There were one or two boos after the Mossley game which we didn't really appreciate, but 50 or 60 went up to Penrith on Saturday and it was like a home game for us.

"Hopefully everyone is behind us – I wanted to bring the home crowds over 300 and we have done that, so we have to give them something to keep coming back for.

"We have to make this place somewhere where teams don't like to come and play.

"When I played against Clitheroe, I didn't like coming to Shawbridge because the crowd were so vociferous and made it so intimidating.

"There is no better feeling as a home player than to have the crowd fully behind you and chanting songs with your name in them, it just spurs you on so much."

And one player the fans have taken to more than anyone is captain Carl Lomax.

The striker has become a popular figure, and after responding by firing a double on Saturday at Penrith, Reynolds added: "I gave Carl the captaincy towards the back end of last season, and a lot of the lads look up to him.

"He's settled here now and he knows that,Clitheroe is a place where he is wanted and he is a player who thrives on that.

"The fans have a song for him about 'having a party when Lomax scores', and he loves it – all the players do, but Carl especially because I don't think he's had that before.

"The captaincy has brought him on another level on and off the pitch, as well as in training.

"But his performances on the pitch have been fantastic, and alongside Anthony Johnson he seems to be striking up a nice little partnership.

"They work well together and are already weighing in with their share of goals, but I think part of why they work well is because there isn't that pressure on them to score all the goals.

"Other players in other areas of the pitch are chipping in as well – Craig Sargeson, Ian Flannery, Ryan Fisher.

"But as well as that, we need to tighten up at the other end, because I don't keep wanting to have to concede first before we go on and win.

"Yes it shows team spirit and character, and I'm proud of the lads for doing so, but I'd rather we didn't have to."

Gary Stopforth is currently awaiting the result of a scan on a knee injury, but Barry Shuttleworth is nearing a return after a hamstring problem.

Chris Ward and Paul Osbourne came through 90 minutes for the reserves in their 5-1 win over Darwen.

Staying with Darwen, Jason Jones has been sent out on loan to the Anchor Ground, while Matt Edgington has joined Ramsbottom United on loan.
