A MOTORIST who died in a horrific smash on the notorious A59 by-pass near Clitheroe has been named.
Police have said 17-year-old Daniel Robert Walton, who lived in Halifax, was behind the wheel of a white Nissan Vanette which was involved in a head-on smash with a burgundy Land Rover Discovery pulling a trailer carrying a yellow Volkswagen Beetle.

The incident happened about 3-45 p.m. on Friday near Sawley Brow and led to police closing off the road to allow the air ambulance to attend.

Police said the teenager was delivering catering equipment for his father's family business when the smash happened.

The driver of the Land Rover has been named as Jerome Wilkinson (42), and his passenger as David Banks (20), both from Barnoldswick. They are said to have sustained slight neck injuries and were taken to Airedale General Hospital for a check-up.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the accident - or who saw either vehicle involved prior to the smash - to contact them.
