RESIDENT of the Manor House Residential Home, Chatburn, Mrs Ellen Harrison celebrated her 90th birthday in style which included a visit by Ribble Valley Mayor Coun. Beverley Jones and her consort and husband Howel Jones.
Mrs Harrison, who has lived in Manor House for two years has had a very interesting life having moved house over 30 times, spending time in Scotland, Bournmouth and, together with her husband Bob and daughter Kay, emigrated to Australia as a £10 Pom in the late 1950s, returning to the UK in 1963.

Her varied career started in the cotton mills of Burnley at the age of 14, as her father felt that nursing, her preferred choice, was unsuitable. She finally achieved her nursing ambition in later life for a brief period of time. She also worked for many years for the Samaritans.

All friends agreed Mrs Harrison has a caring nature and makes all feel at home. She is a keen reader and very quick at quizzes and likes nothing better than an animated debate about the Government and state of the country.
