STRIKE action by members of local government workers' union Unison is leading to the disruption of services across the Ribble Valley today and tomorrow.
Public conveniences will be closed and refuse collections suspended as staff walk out in a pay dispute.

Normal service will resume on Friday and missed bins will be collected on the next scheduled collection date.

There are no reported school closures.

Ribble Valley Borough Council officials have apologised for any inconvenience and have announced that a Planning and Development Committee meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 17th, will now take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 18th, in Ribble Valley Borough Council Chamber, Church Street, Clitheroe.

A total of 98,000 council workers across the North West and 600,000 nationwide are going out on strike over a 2.45% pay rise offer and are demanding 6%.

Dave Prentis, general secretary of Unison, said: "Local government workers cannot afford to take another pay cut which is what 2.45% means. The employers are sitting on billions of pounds in bank accounts - money our members have saved through their hard work and efficiency - which should be used to settle this dispute."
