IT was quite a day for Craig Nicholls, who became a father for the third time just a few hours before being elected as new chairman of Clitheroe Round Table.

A popular member of the club, Craig became its 51st chairman at its annual meeting, held at the Calf's Head, Worston. He said his aim for the forthcoming year was to continue the tradition of fun and fellowship as well as helping local charities and community organisations.

Outgoing chairman Stephen Lord, in his final report, outlined some of the successful events over the past 12 months. These included a visit to Clitheroe Round Table's twin club in Lemvig, Denmark, and the successful annual Santa runs during December, raising more than £5,000 for local charities.

Stephen thanked fellow club members for their support over his year as chairman and wished his successor Craig all the best for his year in office.

Incoming programme co-ordinator Roger Spensley outlined the forthcoming programme of events for the next 12 months, which include a bike ride at the end of May, buggy racing in June, cricket coaching in July and pitch and putt in August. The evening finished when Roger, in his other capacity as Round Table area chairman, inducted new member Peter Mason, who was introduced by Duncan Metcalf.

Clitheroe Round Table meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month with events taking place throughout the area. Round Table is an organisation for men aged between 18 and 45 which holds social and community service events on a local, regional and national level.
