With on-loan Rhys Williams ineligible for this round of the cup, Owen Coyle restores Graham Alexander to right back, with McDonald coming in for Chris Eagles, who has a chest infection.

Burnley: Jensen; Alexander, Duff, Caldwell, Kalvenes; Elliott, McDonald, McCann, Blake; Thompson, Paterson. Subs: Penny, Carlisle, Gudjonsson, Akinbiyi, Mahon, Rodriguez, MacDonald.

West Brom: Carson; Cech, Bednar, Kim, Dorrans, Pele, Teixeira, Zuiverloon, Simpson, Donk, Fortune. Subs: Kiely, Hoefkens, Robinson, Koren, Brunt, Martis, Morrison.

5 mins - Burnley win the first corner of the game, taken by Robbie Blake to Wade Elliott, who backheels to Blake, whose cross is collected by Scott Carson.

7 mins - West Brom corner, taken by Marek Cech, comes to nothing.

12 mins - Cech sends a free kick well over, into the empty Jimmy McIlroy Stand.

Burnley break, and from Martin Paterson's lay off, Blake's deflected shot flies just wide of the near post. Blake's corner drops for Steven Caldwell, but, off-balance and stretching, he can't wrap his foot round the ball and smashes the ball well wide.

25 mins - Referee Mike Jones has a word with captain Caldwell before booking him, presumably for dissent.

29 mins - Blake whips a free kick over the wall and just over the angle from 30 yards.

32 mins - Steven Thompson lays the ball off under pressure from Pele, and Chris McCann feeds Blake, who curls the ball just wide of the far post.

36 mins - Michael Duff feeds Kevin McDonald, who just puts too much on a pass for Paterson, which could have given him a clear strike at Carson.

Chris Brunt replaces Jay Simpson.

41 mins - Marc-Antoine Fortune was allowed to break unwatched into the box, and from his pull back, Roman Bednar lashed a shot towards the angle, that Brian Jensen did well to stop.

44 mins - Graham Dorrans' corner is flicked on by Fortune to Ryan Donk, whose header is well saved by Jensen.

45+1 - Jensen's clearance is headed on by Thompson, and Elliott loops a volley over Carson and in.

Burnley 1, West Brom 0

47 mins - Bednar heads wide from Filipe Teixeira's cross.

49 mins - Blake tries to Cruyff-turn Gianni Zuiverloon on his own goal line, and the Dutchman steals the ball and fires across the face of goal.

52 mins - Christian Kalvenes takes McDonald's lofted pass on the run and centres for Paterson, whose header comes back off Donk, and Thompson swivels to crash home his third goal in three days.

Burnley 2, West Brom 0

55 mins - Donk heads Cech's cross straight at Jensen.

57 mins - Carl Hoefkens for Teixeira.

60 mins - Brunt capitalises on a slip from McCann and feeds Zuiverloon, who guides the ball inside the far post.

Burnley 2, West Brom 1

65 mins - Great Burnley pressure ends in Paterson twisting and turning in the box, and his shot is turned behind by Carson.

68 mins - Paterson finds Blake, who tries to beat Carson by his near post, but his shot lacks power.

70 mins - Blake outrageously tries his luck with a rocket from 30 yards which is too hot to handle for Carson. Paterson is quick on the bits, but his touch sends him wide and he can't force the ball in.

Attendance: 6,635

80 mins - Joey Gudjonsson for McDonald.

81 mins - Kim's superb pass picks out Zuiverloon, who flicks it past Kalvenes, but too close to Jensen, who smothers the chance.

87 mins - Blake ties the West Brom defence in knots and pulls the ball back for Thompson to make it 3-1, as Burnley close in on a fifth Premier League scalp of the season - so far.

Burnley 3, West Brom 1

90 mins - Jay Rodriguez for Paterson.

90+2 mins - Alex MacDonald for Thompson.
